The 7 Best VR Shooter Games for the Oculus Quest 2

Today we wanted to present you guys with a list of the 7 Best Oculus Quest Shooter Games. Most games on the list are for the Oculus / Meta Quest 2 but some might also work with the orignal version and the Rift.

There’s no experience quite like putting on your virtual reality headset and engaging in some explosive shooter action. With VR games trending upward over the past few years, there have been some seriously awesome VR shooter games on Oculus Quest to try.

Whether you’re looking for a stylish shooter that makes you feel like you have superpowers or a classic zombie apocalypse scenario, the best VR shooter games on Oculus Quest have you covered. Today, we’re listing off the best the genre has to offer in this immersive new form of gaming.

With that said, load up and get ready for action as we list off our picks for the best VR shooter games on Oculus Quest (now Meta Quest), ranked in no particular order.

The Best 7 VR Shooter Games on Oculus Quest:

1. After the Fall

Developed by the creative minds at Vertigo Games, After the Fall is a four-player cooperative game that tasks you and your friends with surviving in a post-apocalyptic world drenched in snow and swarming with mutant enemies. Similar in style to Valve’s iconic Left 4 Dead series, this multiplayer shooter will challenge your skills as you battle fierce disfigured soldiers known as the Snowbreed in a series of replayable “Harvest Runs”. Each time you survive a mission, you’ll gain more Harvest currency, which can be used to upgrade your guns and gain an edge on harder difficulties. Overall, After the Fall is a great cooperative title and one of the best VR shooter games on Oculus Quest! Vertigo Games also added a Horde Mode to the Game last week. So if you have the Game already make sure you download the latest update.

2. Dead Second

If you have fond memories of playing light-gun shooting games in arcades, Dead Second is the best VR shooter game on Oculus Quest you could ever have! Inspired by games like Time Crisis and Area 51, Dead Second offers basic yet satisfying arcade-style gunplay across four exciting missions. As you make your way through levels using teleportation movement, you’ll duck behind cover, blast down enemies, and earn valuable multi-kill medals. Shooting with speed and precision awards you with cash that can be used to purchase more powerful weapons, including SMGs, magnums, and more. It’s a simple concept, but Dead Second is a perfect VR shooter for retro arcade enthusiasts.

3. Onward

If there’s one thing the shooter genre is known for, it’s competitive multiplayer arena gameplay. Onward is arguably the best of the bunch, providing players with explosive gameplay, customizable classes and weapons, and some seriously impressive graphics. Realism is the name of the game in Onward, as you’ll have to reload weapons manually, swap items through your gear-belt, and more. Communication is also key, so you will have to coordinate with your teammates if you want to outsmart the opposing team. As a military shooter simulation, you can expect lifelike details on all weaponry and gadgets, sure to impress any seasoned VR shooter fan. If you’re looking for an online multiplayer shooter that feels exceptionally real, Onward is your best bet.

4. Resident Evil 4 VR

Originally released on the Nintendo Gamecube in 2005, Resident Evil 4 has been praised as one of the most entertaining and scariest games ever made. Decades later, that sentiment still holds true, especially in virtual reality. In the game, you play as special agent Leon Kennedy, who is sent to a mysterious village in Spain infested with mutant cult members to rescue the President’s daughter. With ammo and medicine in short supply, you must make your way through this hostile environment without losing your head. Resident Evil 4 VR takes one of the best games of our generation and makes it even more immersive, offering excellent gunplay, boss fights, and even some satisfying puzzles. If you are brave enough to play it, Resident Evil 4 VR is one of the best single-player VR shooters on Oculus Quest.

5. Pistol Whip

By blending together the vibes of rhythm games like Beat Saber with the stylish shooting seen in action films like John Wick, Pistol Whip stands out as one of the best VR shooters on Oculus Quest for several reasons. The visuals are colorful and the music is catchy, providing a stimulating and somewhat psychedelic experience. The game moves along at a brisk pace, forcing you to dodge obstacles and shoot enemies to the beat of the music so you can keep your armor high and continue. Playing VR shooters feels incredibly immersive and fun as is, but Pistol Whip takes things to the next level, bombarding your senses and making you feel like a combat gun-ninja. For players who enjoy flashy graphics, electronic music, and over-the-top gunplay, Pistol Whip is a must-play if you own an Oculus Quest.

6. Superhot VR

On the surface, Superhot VR seems very simple. In each level, you stand in place and shoot at oncoming, faceless red enemies until they stop coming. However, there’s one important twist – time only moves when you move. Thanks to this fundamental change, Superhot VR is one of the most unique VR shooters on Oculus Quest and makes you feel like a master assassin every time you play it. Since enemies only move when you move, you have plenty of time to figure out your game plan and pull off incredible multi-kill maneuvers. You’re not limited to firearms either, as Superhot VR lets you chop through enemies with samurai swords or take them down from afar with ninja stars and other throwables. While other VR shooters are plenty fun, few games are as cool to play as Superhot VR.

7. Arizona Sunshine

Before they created Onward, Vertigo Games released Arizona Sunshine, a VR shooter that mixes survival elements with classic zombie mayhem. In the game’s main campaign mode, you play as a survivor who wakes up in the arid post-apocalyptic state of Arizona, where zombies roam free. Scavenging any weapons or supplies possible from vacant buildings and abandoned cars, you’ll blast your way through multiple hours of shooter fun. In addition to the story mode, you can also test your skill in horde mode, where you must defend your base from increasingly tough waves of undead foes. Best of all, Arizona Sunshine can be played cooperatively with a friend, adding a bit of multiplayer enjoyment into the mix. While some of its gameplay mechanics are a bit simplistic due to its age, Arizona Sunshine is still loads of fun to play and one of the best VR shooters on Oculus Quest.

Shooter games is what virtual reality was made for. The feeling is 1000x better than on the PC with a mouse and a keyboard. You really feel like you’re holding a gun in vr. After the fall and population one would be my two recommendations

Small error in the Arizona Sunshine paragraph. Vertigo Games didn’t create Onward, that was Downpour Interactive (acquired by Meta last year).

I have ambiguous feelings about Onward. Got the game in Mid 2018 when a friend wanted to try it out. We played it regularly and the game got better every update. It was the best (arcade-y) milsim VR shooter (of course there is less selection for VR in general). We had sometimes breaks for weeks but always came back to play a few rounds.

Everything changed though when the fire nation att… ehmm I mean the big controversial 1.8 Update + Quest release happened. It wasn’t just graphics. Gameplay, physics, mechanics, audio, … The PCVR version felt like a completely else game, all for the sake to have one big player base at release.

In my opinion it would have been better to take the Pavlov way and make two sperate versions for PCVR and Quest (or standalone VR headsets in general).

P.S. Also surprised you didn’t mention Contractors and Pavlov (Shack). But on the other side maybe you wanted to make a more versatile list and not just several kind of similar multiplayer military shooters. Mentioning Onward should be enough.
